PROJECT COVERAGE

The purpose of this support project was to enhance the capacity of the Tonga authorities with respect to the accession to the Pacific-EU EPA and, subsequently its implementation.

Two-fold purposes: Support the Tonga authorities prepare for the successful accession to the EPA; and assist the Tonga authorities and the private sector to prepare for the effective implementation of the EPA

Six-fold Project outputs:

  • Institutional capacities for successful accession process strengthened, and internal coordination, monitoring and reporting structure and framework is established;
  • Framework for support to address the revenue implications developed;
  • The practical opportunities and challenges for companies in Tonga to successfully export to the EU assessed;
  • Capacity of Government officials to ensure compliance with legal and Institutional requirements of the EPA strengthened;
  • Capacity of trade officials and private sector to define and implement trade policies to take advantage of the EPA provisions strengthened;
  • The benefits of EPA including opportunities for economic expansion and diversification are shared among the key stakeholders.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

Purpose 1: Support the Tonga authorities prepare for the successful accession to the EPA
