PROJECT COVERAGE
The Programme aims at stimulate more trade and investment between the Pacific Islands Countries (PICs) and the EU and the beneficial integration of Timor-Leste+5 (Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and Papua New Guinea) into the regional and global economy and, thereby, contribute to sustainable economic development and poverty reduction. Four-fold purposes: The programme a) strengthen business, trade and investment ties between the EU and Timor-Leste+5 (plus Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and PNG); b) provide adequate information on key commercial and investment sectors in Timor-Leste+5 (Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and PNG) to European business operators in the Pacific region; c) To capacitate the key beneficiaries on the key business, trade and investment focus of the conference and own this B2B event; and d) To raise Businesses’ awareness and ownership of the benefits of the EPA between the EU and Timor-Leste/PNG/Fiji/Samoa/Solomon Islands (plus Tonga.. Twelve-fold programme outputs: The Support Programme contributed to: |
- Launch and operationalize a PNG-EU Business Council;
- The short readable version of the final report of the first EU-PNG Business, Trade & Investment Conference;
- An updated EPA brochure;
- Promote Timor-Leste+5 (plus Fiji, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga and PNG) and EU business exchange;
- Updated measures to address challenges of the good practices for entering the PNG/Fiji/Samoa/Solomon Islands/Tonga/Timor-Leste markets;
- Widely Share the Good practices for entering the PNG/Fiji/Samoa/Solomon Islands/Tonga/Timor-Leste markets;
- Sectoral business intelligence and assessment of way forward;
- User-friendly summaries of development strategies for specific sectors discussed at the first EU-PNG Business, Trade and Investment Conference (agriculture, energy, forestry, infrastructure, ICT and services, etc.);
- Update / preparation of trade protocols handbooks for key products including coffee and cocoa and an additional one among: rubber saps, vanilla, fish and marine products, wood products, copra;
- Technical skills of the key beneficiaries to handle and own the B2B Conference issues are strengthened;
- Businesses and partners are aware of the EPA benefits beyond fisheries and measures to exploit these opportunities and address the inherent challenges;
- Businesses are aware of trade and investment opportunities consistent with sustainable development, EPA principles and the sustainable management of natural capital.
