Support the implementation of a Gender-responsive National Strategy for the Development of Four Priority Services Sub-Sectors

PROJECT COVERAGE

The support project aims to support the Government of Saint Lucia in the effective implementation of its Gender Focused Services Policy Strategy and action plan.

Two-fold purposes: To design and develop a functional services data management system as part of the work processes of the Central Statistical Office; and to expand the Trade Information Portal of Export Saint Lucia to include services trade information and related market opportunities.

Five-fold Project outputs:

  • Services data management systems developed and operational;
  • Technical skills for compilation and analysis of disaggregated services sector statistics strengthened;
  • Technical skills for reporting of macroeconomic statistics to highlight the true contribution of trade in services to economic development strengthened;
  • Trade information portal of Export Saint Lucia is expanded to support services sector growth; and
  • Development and Services providers in the four priority sectors have full access to services trade information and market opportunities.

RESULTS ACHIEVED

 

Purpose 1:          To design and develop a functional services data management system as part of the work processes of the Central Statistical Office;

  • Updated Data collection process developed, mapping the involvement of key stakeholders;
  • Data management system under the Central Statistical Office completed and launched;
  • Vital data metrics identified and matched to collection points;
  • Consultations held with relevant agencies (data collection points/sources);
  • Evaluation report and recommendations for data management system upgrade prepared;
  • MOUs established to integrate data capture and reporting into regular work processes among the key beneficiaries;
  • System manual for data management developed;
  • Users, stakeholder agencies and data collection points and key technical staff of the Central Statistical Office trained;
  • Key services statistics are made available and published; e.g., contribution to GDP, Value of Service Exports, etc.

Purpose 2:          To expand the Trade Information Portal of Export Saint Lucia to include services trade information and related market opportunities.

  • Existing trade portal is reconfigured to include services trade data;
  • Market intelligence, market entry requirements and other information researched and documented;
  • Upgraded trade portal populated with the newly acquired market information;
  • Portal is linked to other web platforms for ease of access;
  • Number of persons visiting the portal increased;
  • Formal Launch of the upgraded trade portal promoted.
